McGee Wins Grand Sculler Trophy At Local Meet

On December 7, the Town of Tonawanda Aquettes hosted a Sculling swim meet at Sweet Home High school. The meet was attended by 130 athletes from five teams.  The teams represented were the Tonawanda Aquettes, Buffalo Swimkins, Keuka Kokanees, Rochester Dolphins and the Southtowns YMCA.

Sculling involves using hand movements to propel the swimmer and to support the swimmer when performing upside down in the water.  Swimmers competed in five skill levels, each divided into separate age groups.  Swimmers rotated in groups to different judging stations.  Scores were averaged and combined to compute each athletes overall score.

The top scoring athlete of the meet was Alexandra McGee from the Tonawanda Aquettes.  She was awarded the Grand Sculler trophy for her overall score of 82.2.  McGee is a sophomore at Kenmore East High School, and is in her seventh year with the Aquettes.  She was also recently selected to attend the All Star Training Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The Aquettes have numerous programs suitable for all ages and skill levels.  For more information on the Aquettes, please visit us at www.ttasynchro.com or contact Head Coach Karen Alvarez 912-0427
