Junior Olympics, Greensboro 2015

The Town of Tonawanda Aquettes 16-17 Age Group Team brought home the Gold Medal and National Team Championship at the recent Synchronized Swimming Junior Olympics.

Held June 26 – July 3 in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Junior Olympics brought together the top 1,100 athletes from over 80 teams.  This ten day event is the world’s largest synchronized swimming competition for girls aged 11- 19.  To qualify for this competition, swimmers competed throughout the year in various events at the local, zone and regional level with only the top finishers advancing onto the next level.  Swimmers vied for Solo, Duet, Combo and Team titles in four age groups (11-12, 13-15, 16-17, 18-19) at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The Aquettes six member “Totem Team” were able to peak their performance and clinch first place in the preliminary round and then held on to best Northern Colorado Synchro by one point to take the title in finals. Their routine was filled with challenging choreography and difficult “hybrids”.  This combined with strong compulsory figure scores allowed this team to consistently score well at competitions throughout the year.  The team consists of Claire Ermer, Sydney McClaren, Alexandra McGee, Alexis Sandekian, Alyssa Reed and Madison Wall.  The team is coached by Joanne Wright.
