Impressive Wins for the Aquettes at Synchro Nationals

403-300x201The Town of Tonawanda Aquettes capped off a great year with numerous top finishes at the 2012 eSynchro Age Group Synchronized Swimming National Championships held in Oxford, Ohio June 22-30. Swimmers competed at Miami University’s natatorium in age groups consisting of 11 – 12, 13- 15, 16 – 17, and 18 – 19. Anita Alvarez of the 16-17 team, started off by swimming a strong solo routine, putting her in 1st place and guaranteeing her a spot in the finals. After compulsory figures and final routines were added, Alvarez was ahead by over two points from the nearest competitor, and was awarded the Gold Medal in Solo competition. Alvarez also earned the Gold Medal for earning the highest scores in the Figures exercises. Alvarez then moved on to compete with duet partner Emily Sansone. Alvarez/Sansone swam their “Footloose” inspired routine and easily advanced to finals competition where they placed 2nd for the Silver Medal in 16-17 Duet Competition. Sansone also competed in the 13-15 Solo division where she placed 13th. Alvarez and Sansone then moved quickly on to the 16-17 age group Team division.

The Aquettes team, consisting of Alvarez, Sarah Brill, Jenna Ivancic, Alexandra McGee, and Sansone swam to a “Workout” inspired routine filled with lifts. The team showed their strength, flexibility and precise synchronized movements. They too moved onto finals, where competition was fierce. After routines and figures were tallied, the Aquettes 16-17 team earned a 2nd place and the Silver medal. Finally, the three-some of Brill, Ivancic and McGee qualified to compete in the 16-17 age group Trio division. After swimming their “Blue Suede Shoes” routine, the trio easily advanced onto finals where they finished in 8th place. For more information of the Aquettes, please contact Head Coach Karen Alvarez.
