Engelhaupt Takes First in 11/12 AG Figures Competition

On January 19th, the Town of Tonawanda Aquettes hosted a synchronized swimming Figures Competition. The meet, held at Sweet Home High school, was attended by 120 athletes from five local and regional teams.  The teams represented were the Tonawanda Aquettes, Buffalo Swimkins, Keuka Kokanees, Rochester Dolphins and the Southtowns YMCA.

Figures are specific positions that swimmers learn to hold in the water.   Figure difficulty increases at each age group.  Each age group has eight assigned figures with unique names such as “Porpoise” “Barracuda” and “Ballet Leg”.  Swimmers practice how to control the speed, height and position of each of the required figures.

In this type of competition, swimmers rotated in groups to multiple judging stations.  There they were individually scored by a panel of four judges on their performance of each assigned figure.  Scores were averaged and combined to compute each athletes overall score.  Swimmers competed in five skill levels, each divided into separate age groups.

The Aquettes have numerous programs suitable for all ages and skill levels.  For more information on the Aquettes, please visit us at www.ttasynchro.com or contact Head Coach Karen Alvarez 912-0427
