TONAWANDA, N.Y. — The Tonawanda Aquettes, a local competitive synchronized swim team, celebrated 100 days until the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio in the water.

The Aquettes swam 100 laps to celebrate how close the games are and turned it into a fundraiser.

“They were collected pledges and the money that we raise goes to help their travel expenses … we travel all over the country and it goes towards that,“ said Coach Karen Alvarez.

The team also swam to support Anita Alvarez, a former Aquette, who will be competing in the 2016 games with the U.S synchronized swimming team.
